I finally have a better idea of what happiness is now that I am free from using drugs. When I used drugs, I had no idea that I could truly enjoy a sunset, a song, a conversation and then a morning free from a hangover. Without drugs, I also have learned that sober relationships, love and spirituality make me happy. I have also learned that I don't need money and materialism to buy happiness. When I was using drugs, I had no idea that these freedoms and joys existed. Now I know that the foundation for happiness is not using drugs.
Today I will remember to be grateful for learning what happiness isn't. If you think that picking up or acting out will make you happy, think again.
