Reach Out. Even when things are good

It is often said that the most dangerous time for an addict is not during detox (or when things are challenging), but when things are good. It's easy to not pick up the first drink after you've totaled your car. It's much more difficult not to pick up the first drink when you have been sober for awhile and you are relaxing on that warm, sunny beach and along comes your friend with a cooler full of beer. So don't get cocky when things are going well. Keep going to meetings and practice the steps. And when that cooler of beer comes around, take a walk to the nearest phone and call a fellow 12 step member. Talking some sobriety immediately is tremendous relapse prevention - even when you think you have your urges under control.

To-do:

Remember your bottom and how drinking took you there.
