If your Higher Power seems far away, who moved?

"The alcoholic at certain times has no effective mental defense against the first drink. Except in a few rare cases, neither he nor any other human being can provide such a defense. His defense must come from a Higher Power."- Big Book.  REMEMBER, AA DEFINES A HIGHER POWER AS ANY POWER THAT KEEPS YOU SANE AND SOBER. FOR EXAMPLE,  IT CAN BE THE SUPPORT GROUP, A RELIGIOUS GOD, A NON RELIGIOUS HIGHER POWER, HIGHER PRINCIPLES, TREATMENT) How do we move away from our Higher Power? We do or think things that disconnect us from it. For example, disconnected thinking involves being worried, resentful, fearful, compulsive, hateful, angry, etc. Disconnected behaviors involve " immature" acting, sexual deviance, misrepresentations, physical abuse, verbal abuse, relapse, etc. It is challenging to stay spiritually connected if you stay surrounded by spiritual doubters so go to recovery meetings to be around spiritual believers.

To-do:

Find your GOOD PURPOSE by meditating and asking your Higher Power how you can serve your GOOD PURPOSE.  Begin by doing honest, pure, unselfish, loving acts in each moment. Find people, places, and things that connect you to your Higher Power.  Keep reconnecting throughout this day by catching yourself when you are doing and thinking in a "disconnected" way. Steps 8 and 9 often apply to clear your conscience or to right a relationship.
